Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@meditativemarks.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

When you first arrive at a Meditative Marks class you will be met and greeted by the lead facilitator. All materials, art mediums and aprons will be waiting for you, as well as a cup of calming chamomile. You can choose where you will want to sit and once everyone has arrived the lead facilitator will introduce herself and the class will begin.

Please book via the contacts page or email directly stating your name and which class you would like to attend. Once payment has been made via the given Paypal link, your place in the class will be secured.

Not at all. A Meditative Marks class is about moving and flowing with your body and making marks. Being mindful and present in the process of creating, than a final outcome. During the class we will be encouraging the use of the right side of the brain which is the creative, imaginative, intuitive side. So, you may be pleasantly surprised with what you produce!

All art mediums and equipment are included. But I do ask that all mediums and equipment are left behind at the end of the class. But you can take home what you create.

The art mediums used in the classes will have been chosen for their suitability to the planned exercises and for their calming and soothing quality on the sensory system. Mediums may include watercolour paints, crayons, chalk, inks, charcoal and marker pens. Some classes may have you play with instruments you wouldn’t necessarily think you can make marks with, such as twigs and cotton buds!

Classes will include techniques such as mark making to music or natural soundscapes, wax resist, bilateral drawing, using your less dominant hand, mirroring and collage.

Absolutely! But if you don’t, then all work will be recycled.

By coming to a Meditative Marks class you would be encouraged to work with your tremor and not against or hide it. You would be encouraged to flow with however your body wants to move, you may even find your own rhythm to it! I would hope over time you would see a beauty in your tremor by visually seeing all the wonderful marks you create moving with it.

The work you create is purely for you. It won’t be analysed or critiqued in any way. There are no plans to display or exhibit work at the present time.

Not at all. Colour may be a focus in some classes but it is more about the process of making marks and shapes and being mindful, than making something artistic and colourful. But even beautiful pieces of art can be in black and white or just monotone just like Bridget Riley!

They’re designed to be a drop in class. Every class will follow the same structure, but with a different theme or area of focus. All I ask is that places are booked and paid for in advance as spaces are limited.

I’m afraid due to preparation for each class, there is no refund within 24 hours of a cancellation. Please see the terms and conditions.

A Meditative Marks class is a form of active meditation, so by taking part in a creative activity you will be shifting the brain's focus to the task in hand and being present allowing you to hopefully switch off from stresses and distractions. It is time for you. We will bring an awareness to your breath and work with art mediums that have a calming aesthetic. By combining these elements, the aim is for it to have a relaxing impact.

The exercises in a Meditative Marks class encourage the right side of the brain which is our imaginative, creative side. So hopefully, if you come with an open mind, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you achieve!
